Treatment of MRSA

Nursing care

Assess for further signs of infection

If MRSA is in a wound, ensure the wound is kept clean and dressed

Promote sunlight exposure

When possible, residents with MRSA will have a single room or will share a room only with someone who also has MRSA

Healthcare workers need to wear gloves and gowns while assisting residents with MRSA

Visitors might also be asked to wear gloves and gowns

Treatment

The Doctor will determine the best treatment for MRSA and this may include antibiotics. Treatment should be started as soon as possible to prevent MRSA spreading throughout the body and causing life-threatening conditions such as sepsis.

Surgical draining may be necessary for some types of MRSA infections.
