The laundry comprises hard surfaces, and most hard surfaces can be adequately cleaned with warm water and detergent as per the manufacturer's instructions. Allowing the cleaned surface to dry is an essential aspect of cleaning.
Laundry Cleaning Agents
Correctly used laundry cleaning agents reduce the possibility of healthcare-associated infections. The following must be observed when using any laundry cleaning agent in the facility
Select the appropriate solution for the job; a laundry cleaning agent should assist in the removal of dirt from a surface without harm to the user or damage to the surface
All solutions must be prepared as per the manufacturer's instructions
All solutions must be stored safely and securely in a designated area
Decanted solutions must never be returned to their original containers as contamination of stock solution can occur
Decanted solutions must never be topped up as old, weakened solutions are a breeding ground for resistant pathogenic microorganisms
Emptied solution containers must be washed and dried thoroughly before re-use

Laundry Cleaning Schedule
All laundry areas must be cleaned at least daily with neutral pH detergent
Attention must be paid to frequently touched laundry surfaces, including horizontal surfaces, tops of equipment, linen trolleys, sinks, etc.
Linen stocks must be kept to a minimum in the laundry area to prevent contamination
A linen stock rotation system should be operational
Dryer filters must be cleaned out at least twice daily to reduce the risk of fire
Floors must be cleaned daily
