Hand Hygiene for Cleaning Staff

What is it?

Hand hygiene is a general term referring to any hand cleansing action.

Effective hand hygiene includes

Applying an alcohol-based hand rub/sanitiser to the surface of hands (liquids, gels, and foams) OR

Washing hands with the use of water and soap or a soap solution, either non-antimicrobial or antimicrobial.

Effective hand hygiene is important in preventing the spread of infections. When performed correctly, hand hygiene reduces microorganisms on hands and is the most effective action to reduce healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).

The use of gloves does not replace the need for performing hand hygiene.
